Therapy for New Moms

Empowering women to release guilt, rediscover inner peace, and reconnect with the soulful balance they need to thrive in motherhood.

Let’s release the weight of it all—so you can breathe, heal, and find your way back to you.

Your new motherhood feels like a beautiful storm—one you weren’t fully prepared for.

Because you love your new baby so deeply, but deep down, you miss yourself too and you’re scared that you lost yourself in the process of becoming a new mom.

You knew postpartum would be hard, but no one told you it would feel like this. Like waking up dreading the day before it even begins. Like staring at your baby and wondering why everyone else seems to feel only joy. Like holding them in your arms yet feeling painfully alone.

Every sleepless night, every endless feeding, every tiny decision feels like another test you’re somehow failing. You wonder if your baby deserves better. If you were ever meant for this. And then the guilt creeps in—because how can you feel this way when you’re supposed to be grateful?

It doesn’t have to feel this way—but I see you.

You want to feel more present, to actually enjoy these moments with your baby—but right now, it just feels like survival.

  • You’ve heard all the advice—“Just sleep when the baby sleeps.” “Take more time for yourself.” But those one-off moments don’t fix the deep exhaustion, the intrusive thoughts, the feeling that you’re somehow getting it all wrong.
  • Maybe you’re scared that asking for help means you’re not strong enough.
  • Maybe you worry that if you say it out loud—how hard this is, how lost you feel—someone might think you’re not a good mom.

You deserve a space to heal where you can breathe, find balance, and come back to yourself.

Motherhood changes everything—your body, your mind, your relationships, your sense of self. And yet, the world only talks about the beautiful parts, leaving you alone with the parts no one prepared you for: the bone-deep exhaustion, the identity crisis, the guilt that creeps in when you struggle to feel the joy you were promised.

Alma de Madre exists for the mothers living in that unfiltered reality—the ones who don’t have the privilege of pretending it’s all perfect. This isn’t therapy that tells you to just “enjoy the moment” or “focus on the positive.” It’s a space where you can say the hard things out loud—the intrusive thoughts, the resentment, the grief for the life you had before—and still be met with compassion instead of shame.

Okay so...

About Alma de Madre

Hi, I’m Karla Hernández - LCSW serving women in Los Angeles and surrounding areas

When I became pregnant, I quickly realized how often women’s voices are dismissed—during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Even with a supportive midwife and a beautiful birth experience, I struggled with postpartum anxiety and depression. It opened my eyes to how much real, compassionate support is missing for mothers—not just medically, but emotionally.

We live in a world that expects moms to do it all without complaint. But the truth is, we were never meant to do this alone. Healing happens in community—with providers who listen, support, and empower mothers to find their own way, not just follow expectations. That’s why I started this practice—to offer trauma-informed, person centered care that meets you exactly where you are and gives you the space to heal, be heard, and feel whole again.

Motherhood wasn’t supposed to break you, it's time to find your way back to your soulful balance

You are everything your baby needs, but you are not meant to disappear in the process.
